Web Custom Controls 1.3.3 also adds a significant performance enhancement to WebListBoxTD. If you are going to add, edit, or delete multiple rows in a loop, set CacheScripts to TRUE before the loop and FALSE after. This hint lets WebListBoxTD produce more compact and faster executing JavaScript for the client.

This is a free update for all registered users.

My apologies to those of you who were waiting on these bug fixes. The changes for 2014r2.1 were a little more involved then I had anticipated.

The Xojo team probably doesn’t hear this enough, so: thank you for your responsiveness and all your hard work on Xojo.

Below is an overview of the changes:

• New WebGetHtmlTD class allows you to take a static HTML ‘snapshot’ of any control on your page. This can be useful for generating quick PDF reports using one of the many HTML to PDF libraries available.
• New WebLinkTD class fixes the styling issues which exist with the standard WebLink class.
• jQueryFileUpload – Add Files button works in Windows FireFox.
• jQueryFileUpload – no longer attempts to startup on Safari Mobile. This control has no use on iOS devices, and trying to start it up can hang the web page on those devices.
• jCanvasToRbGraphics – fixed a bug which prevented text font and style settings from taking effect.
• jCanvasToRbGraphics – added multiple versions of DrawString instead of one with default parameters. This is because RBScript does not recognize default parameters in a context object method. This was mainly for the demo app.
• WebListBoxTD – fixed an issue that prevented the insertion of HTML which contained tables into cells.
• Added a patch to work around the Xojo 2013r1 WebSessionContext bug: feedback://showreport?report_id=27067. Note that the patch is only used on that version of Xojo as the bug will be fixed in r2.
• wccCgiServeAllFiles is now set to True. Previously it was not even though the documentation said it was.
• Fixed the RefreshClientTD method to run properly on Xojo.
• Fixed WebListBoxTD to run properly on Xojo.
• Fixed WebStyleTD and WebStyleExt so that styles are properly applied to WebLinks.
• Implemented the Resize method for jQuerySlider.
• Fixed WebControlExt.SetBackgroundTD. This method allows you to set the background image options for a page or control.
• Improved the reliability of the jCanvas.wccMouseEnter and jCanvas.wccMouseExit events. These worked perfectly in RS2011r3 but are unreliable in RS2012 and Xojo 2013r1. I haven’t identified why yet. I’ve added code to eliminate duplicate and clearly false enter/exit events. It’s still not 100%, but good enough that the drag mouse demo works.

Version 1.3.1 will be out July 1st with some general and Xojo specific bug fixes, and new control updates will follow shortly. The controls should all be moved to the new Xojo WebSDK sometime in August or September. This won’t make a large difference in the controls themselves or how you use them, but it’s important in moving forward and taking full advantage of future Xojo releases.

I’m starting to work the kinks out and am able to return to a normal work pattern. I’m going to be working on releasing a bug fix update this week, and an update with at least one significant new control next week.

My apologies to those I’ve talked to personally about various bugs and feature/control requests. I know you’re waiting, and I appreciate your patience. Things should be back on track shortly.

• New jCanvas control for drawing raster graphics on the client browser.
• New jCanvasLayer class works with the jCanvas control to provide vector engine like features. It lets you track, change, animate, and receive mouse events for individual shapes.
• New jCanvasFont class for specifying fonts and font styling in a jCanvas.
• New jCanvasToRbGraphics wrapper class allows you to draw on a jCanvas using many of the same methods, properties, and code you would use with a Realbasic Graphics class.
• New translation features for yui2Calendar – you can now specify a language translation using a formatted string instead of code, making it much easier to produce translations and to store them in constants, external files, and/or databases. Translations can now be changed at any time.

Version 1.3 should be out tomorrow night or Friday morning. I think I said the same thing to a customer via email last week. Naturally I ran into some last minute issues with the new control for 1.3 which led to more work, but also more features, bug fixes, and better performance.

I won’t say what the new control is until the update. But I will say it’s one of the more powerful controls I can add to the toolkit. It can definitely open up some new uses for WE.

• New WebListBoxTD class, a subclass of WebListBox which adds the ability to set the HTML within cells. This lets you display styled text, images, and links in your WebListBox.
• New WebStyleTD class allows you to dynamically create and change styles at runtime.
• New WebStyleExt module with functions that let you set style properties in code. You can set the style properties of both WE WebStyles and WE WebControls.
• New css module contains useful constants for use with the WebStyleTD class and WebStyleExt module.
• New Google Web Font support. Use Google Fonts in your WE controls.
• jQueryFileUpload now has a Translation property for supporting foreign languages.
• The bug which prevented CGI builds from working on iOS has been resolved.

I’m hoping to speed up the pace of releases in August and September. Keep your fingers crossed…
